The world famous trekking attraction of Ghorepani 2874m and Poon Hill 3210m lies in Myagdi district of Nepal. This trek is considered as short and rookie level trek. The entire trek is renowned for its grassy meadow along with the trekking route.
The trail leads from Tijhedhunga to Ulleri passing through the heart of the mountains along with the photo frame view of South Annapurna Mountain. From Ulleri begins the trail which undergoes through the dense and eye catching oak and Rhododendron forest which is wished to last forever. The electrifying trail through Nange-Thathi an open field, leads us to an elevation of 2874 meters which is of Ghorepani.
The trek would halt at ghorepani for a night, where full accommodation is provided at a lodge. The place Ghorepani is believed to be a rest stop where ancient traders found water (pani in Nepali) for their horses (ghora in Nepali) thus leading to the name Ghorepani. Ghorepani village lies within the Annapurna Conservation Area. Compared to other villages at that altitude Ghorepani is developed and contains a number of "guest houses" that provides lodging and meals to mountain trekkers.
Early next morning we begin pre dawn hike to nearby Poon hill of altitude 3220 meters. Poon hill peak is the center spot view point, which offers picturesque view of Annapurna Range, Dhaulagiri Range, Machhapuchhre, Nilgiri Mountain and the reason behind pre dawn hike to that one mystical view point is to witness the nature in its most pristine state. The sunrise from in between the mountains and its golden bright lights on the snow capped mountain giving star like sparkle at broad day light gives a feeling of thousand splendid suns. After sunrise our trek heads towards Ghorepani via Tadapani, with never ending Mountain View on the either sides of the trail. The green grassed top hills on the south, snow capped mountain on the north, ridges, passes, indigenous communities, and flora and fauna in combine would make the experience once in life time experience for every trekkers. Experiencing the culture, Mother Nature, local food is all that anyone would wish to and experience in a trek and Ghorepani Poon Hill trek stands tall in it.
Descending to Ghandruk, the mountains get much closer; Annapurna South and Hiunchuli appear to be within the grip of our palms. Ghandruk is a large but beautiful village; it is surrounded by beautiful forests, green hills and mountains, Ghandruk shelters a large number of indigenous species of plants, trees, flowers, birds and mammals. The rhododendron forest between Ghandruk and Ghorepani is considered to be one of the largest rhododendron forests in the country.
Similarly, the Modi Gorge is home for hundreds of bird species and a popular site for bird watchers. The trek is one of the longest, with spectacular views of the mountain never leaving the background. The next day walk down the hill brings back down to the valley but on the other side, through Kimche and back to Birethanti. It's all downhill while return but with some steep trails. The day ends by travelling back to Pokhara, and followed by finally returning back to Kathmandu which is the end of trek.
